Well if either is the case, today we are going to put that crap to bed so that it doesn’t have a hold on you any longer. Today we are going to redefine the F word!

Hello my friends it has been a while and for that, I apologize. Thanks to those of you who have emailed me asking when I was coming back. Life has been crazy but I am getting back on track for weekly episodes and I am so excited to be here today to talk about something I feel is really important.

Have you ever had fear of failure hold you back, or maybe you are like me and had some massive failures that left you too traumatized to try again? Well if either is the case, today we are going to put that crap to bed so that it doesn’t have a hold on you any longer. Today we are going to redefine the F word!

Here is the thing…in society we are not taught to celebrate failure. We are taught from a young age that it is bad and wrong and we should feel horrible about it. The truth is failure is part of success. As long as we learn from it we should celebrate it.

One of my favorite illustrations is the iceberg illusion. When I speak to audiences about resilience, I always show it. In the image, we see this beautiful iceberg above the surface, and it’s what everyone sees, and that resembles success.

People only see our success. HOWEVER…underneath the surface is a HUGE piece of the iceberg, and that my friends resembles all the hard work, failures, disappointment, sacrifice, discipline, and dedication. So much is happening underneath the surface, but we only see the pretty picture above the water.

You can’t have success without some kind of adversity. The problem we have is that we let adversity hold us back, or worse yet, give up altogether.

Some never even start because the fear of failing is so overwhelming it stops us dead in our tracks. But what if we stopped giving failure so much power over us. What if we changed our perspective and let our so-called failures motivate us because we know it’s just part of the path to success.

I want to share with you some famous failures, and just imagine if these people gave up before they had success – what a tragedy it would be.

Famous Failures

After being cut from his high school basketball team, he went home, locked himself in his room, and cried….

Famous Quote
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Michael Jordan

He wasn’t able to speak until he was almost 4 years old & his teachers said he would never amount to much.

Famous Quote
“Success is failure in progress.”

Albert Einstein

Was demoted from her job as a news anchor and told she was “not fit for television”.

Famous Quote
“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.

Oprah

Fired from a newspaper for lack of imagination and having no original ideas.

This one is massive because can you imagine if this let him stop and give up we would not have the happiest place on earth!!!

Famous Quote
“All the adversity I have had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me. You may not realize when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”

Walt Disney

He also says this:

Famous Quote
“We don’t look backward for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

Walt Disney

I love that because I love to have fun with everything I do and I am always open to new things and for me, I have redefined what the word fail even means.

To me, to FAIL is a Fun Attempt In Learning.

Listen, I have failed massively in my life, and I feel like I have a PHD in resiliency and what I have learned is that failure and the fear of failure keep you stuck and playing small. Once you allow yourself to change your perspective about it and remind yourself it’s part of your journey to success and that no matter what you will figure it out because you always do…things will start to shift and the most important thing you can do is work on your mindset.

It’s really that powerful because your thoughts control your emotions and how you feel will dictate how you act or don’t act.

Commit to working on yourself because you, my friend, are the best investment you can ever make.

So keep moving forward my friends and I will see you in the next episode!
