Today I am talking about how to get out of your own way because honestly, you are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way.
Hello, my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Digital Business Breakthrough podcast. Today I am so excited to talk about something I feel like everyone goes through, especially consistently, as you continue to grow and grow a business, and have the life you want. You need to learn how to get out of your own way, because honestly, you are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way. Right? I will tell you, if you just get out of the way, amazing things will come to you. And so many of us get stuck in this spiral of maybe we care about what other people think. Maybe we are internalizing everything and we are keeping ourselves small. And we do that. Our brain is designed to protect us, right? So it feels uncomfortable when we want to, when we have big dreams, when we have a big vision, heck even if we have a mediocre vision, if it is outside the realm of what our brain feels is comfort.
It starts giving us a whole bunch of mind drama around it. And then we start sabotaging ourselves, or we let our thoughts run the show instead of owning it, stepping up and taking control and just getting out of the way. So what does that mean? Well, first of all, I think when we’re trying to grow, we have a whole bunch of scarcity mindset, right? We always fear the worst. I think that that is normal for anything, maybe you want to invest in your business, invest in a coach and it is a huge investment for you. I know when I first invested in my first mastermind, I did not have income coming in and I invested in an $18,000 a year mastermind. It was $3,000 down and $1500 a month. And that was scary. And I mean, I could have told myself a bunch of stories as to why I shouldn’t do that, but I will tell you that was probably one of the single most important things, was getting a coach and having a mastermind.

And, and I know 100% it helped me grow my business to six figures within a year. And it was the best investment. And I remember saying that to myself, but I could have talked myself out of it and I could have stayed small. I could have played small. And I’m not telling you to do things that are super risky for you. I mean, listen, I’ve lost millions of dollars before. And so I even, whenever I’m making a big decision, I have to like go through the things like, is this fear controlling me? Is this my past thoughts of things? Or like, if I’m thinking about where I want to go, if I’m focusing on where I want to go and who I want to be? Is this decision in alignment? And so there are so many things that keep us playing small, that create barriers for us, that we don’t have success.
And one of those things is limiting beliefs in yourself. And maybe you are holding onto past so-called failures that you’ve told yourself, these stories that you don’t have the confidence to continue to go forward. Maybe you’ve made mistakes. Listen, I know I have made a lot of mistakes and here’s the thing. You are human, you will make mistakes. And that is okay. What is not okay, is for you to continue to beat yourself up and hold onto those mistakes forever and ever, and ever, and ever. And I know that it’s hard to let a mistake go, but honestly, if you would just sit down and figure out what the lesson was that you learnt and actually absorb the lesson, then just move on, it is easy to just move on after you have, and it’s easy to tell your brain, “Listen, I get it. I learned the lesson, I’m moving on. If that thing creeps back up, I’m just going to let it go.”
And so I think for so many of us, we hold onto these things and it does hold us back. We hold on, we have like these layers of crap, right? It’s like first, we’ve got this level of fear. This fear of failure, this fear of what will other people think…Well, what other people think is none of your business. That’s actually one of my favorite quotes. What other people think of me is none of my business. Listen, that’s their stuff. That’s their thing. Now I do have a small group of people who I really value their opinion. Everybody else can have their opinion and I know that’s just on them. You know, I have that small group of people who I know who I truly respect and listen to and value their opinion.
Everyone else, your opinion of me is none of my business. Right? But we have these layers of things, right? Fear, what other people are going to say to us, feeling like we are not good enough, lacking that confidence of like, can I really do this? Do I feel like a fake? Do I feel like a phony? I think it’s important that you know that no matter what level of success that you get to, you’re always going to struggle with these thoughts because each barrier that you break through, they show up in a different way. So when maybe you’re getting to your first six figures, you’re like, oh I don’t know about this. I don’t know that I can actually do this. And then you finally break through and you’re like, wow. And then all of a sudden that level of six figures becomes easy. It becomes your norm. It becomes like “this is okay”.

“If you’re not growing, you’re dying. There really is no in between.”
Kara Charron
So maybe I’m now going from multiple six figures and I want to get to a million. Well, that’s more mind drama and more crap and more things that will hold you back and be like, “Oh but we’re so comfortable over here and we could stay here.” But you know, if you’re not growing, you’re dying, there really is no in-between. So I’m not saying that you have to have these huge visions of doubling your business. It’s okay to maintain your business and figure out the systems so that when you do go to grow, you’re not going to break it. So I’m honestly, I’m not saying that you have to have huge visionary goals. Some people do and some people don’t.
I am a person that believes that whatever is going to work for you – what do you feel in your heart? What resonates with you? Because nothing else matters, right? It’s getting clear with yourself, it’s understanding yourself. So how do you get out of your way on a daily basis? Well, I know I always have to be better at this, but finding quiet time and whether that is meditation or journaling and just like getting the thoughts out of my head. If fear comes up, addressing it, like, why am I scared right now? What is it that’s making me feel uncomfortable?
Examine those thoughts and understand – I have become a very good observer of my thoughts. And I’m like, well, isn’t that interesting because we think so many thoughts during the day that we don’t even really know what we’re truly thinking. And it’s really the power of sitting down and writing down what’s going through our brain that we can kind of pick apart and find, like, oh my gosh, that was really a thought that I had, I really need to address that because that’s like not cool. I need to talk myself out of it.
So just try and incorporate that every day. And again, I’m not perfect. I don’t journal every day. I mean, I’m working on it. I try and find quiet time every morning or in the afternoon. And again, you can try and make it part of your daily routine, right? Usually, I try to make it part of my morning routine, but there are days where I just get up and I feel inspired and I want to work and I go in and work. And then the next day I go back to my morning routine and I go and I journal and I write the things/ So that’s one way to get out.
The other thing is when things aren’t going our way, it’s so easy for us to give up. Like we can just throw in the towel easily. We’re proving to ourselves, this isn’t working. We can convince ourselves very easily that we suck, that what we’re doing is not working. That it’s never going to work. Instead of acting from a place of abundance, you know what I mean?
There are times in my business where I have my wonderful months. And then there are times where it’s like, Whoa, that’s a low month for me. And now what’s interesting is my low months are way bigger than anything that I’ve had in the past, but still, it’s a low month. So let’s throw out some numbers, like, just for an example. So let’s say if you’re used to like 40k a month, and then all of a sudden you have a month where it’s 20k and then 15k and you’re like, Ooh, that feels uncomfortable.
And, and you could go into all the reasons why things are going to continue to go to shit, and the world’s falling apart, and you don’t know what else to do, and all of those things. Or, you can come from a mindset of abundance and calm and knowing like, “Hey, it’s cool, this is just a part of business.” There are cycles. There are going to be good months and not good months. And we’re gonna go with that and you’re not gonna freak out. And because you know that there’s more, that you have the power to create, you really do have the power to create money at will. So many people get confused when they hear that or whatever, but honestly, if I want to focus on bringing my revenue up, I have to focus on income-producing things.
So I just create a plan, execute the plan, and you’re right, I’m not going to hit it out of the park all the time. That’s also part of business. You can’t always win, but if you operate from a place of
A. Abundance
B. Be looking at data, because honestly if I’m trying to grow my business, I’m looking at the offer, I’m looking at the amount of people who have come and whether they’ve taken action or not taken an action. And I can decipher the numbers to be like, what is it that I need to tweak? What is it that I need to improve?
I think we get caught up in all of the things, we get so emotional, which is normal. And so if we just take a step back and download your thoughts and think “Is this fact or fiction? Is this the truth? Is it not true?” You hear me say that all the time, but I always am asking myself, “Is that fact or fiction?” And even if it is a fact, does that fact define who I am? No. It doesn’t define who you are. If I let the fact that I lost a multimillion-dollar business in my twenties define who I was, that I was a failure at large scale, then I would have never gotten over it. I would have never been able to break through to the next thing. And I will tell you, I am super grateful for my journey. I wouldn’t be here in this spot today if I didn’t go through all of the things that I went through.

“I’ve got to get out of my own way on a consistent basis.”
Kara Charron
The one thing that I have really realized the most is that I’ve got to get out of my own way on a consistent basis. If I’m putting up those blocks, if I’m putting up that wall of scarcity or letting fear dictate my moves, I have to realize that I need to get out of my own way. And so again, I would like to try and be present and I really do love what I do. And I think that’s super important and I focus on value and service. And honestly, being of assistance to people, truly helping people. And I think when you switch your mindset to that, I think money follows. I work with this small group of clients and I do amazing things for them, and I love the things that I do. And I’m telling you, it is not always peaches and roses and ice cream and all of the glitter. There are some bumps along the way, but all I keep doing is when something is not going correct, all I can do, all my brain is now programmed to do is look at data, make an action plan and keep testing and tweaking.
I swear that’s it for life, like that is, whether you’re trying to grow your business, whether you’re spending money on advertising, on paid ads…I said this to someone recently, I’m like, listen, I am not a genius. All I know is that I am a person who likes to think outside of the box and know this – you’re going to pay for advertising (this was someone who wanted to do ads) you’re going to run a test and we’re going to look at the data. I can’t guarantee your results. No one can guarantee you results, right? And I can’t own whether or not you get results or not. What I can own is that we’re going to keep trying and testing different hooks, different angles, different things, different audiences until we can figure it out.
I think that mindset has allowed me to get out of my own way in my own life and business, because I have to operate on that level on a daily basis. Like I can’t own the results, all I can do is my best with the experience that I have to keep testing, tweaking, reading data, modifying, doing it again and doing it again and doing it again. Right? So I just want to encourage you to get out of your own way. You are far too smart to keep yourself playing small. So whether that’s breaking through to your first 5k or breaking through to 100k or breaking through to the million mark, there are always going to be things that want to keep you small and keep you holding back. But you have the ability to breakthrough. If you just get out of your own way.
I will see you on the next episode.
